An independent professional examination of information in companies accounts. Separate to statutory accounts an audit is the responsibility of directors. A company with an annual turnover of up to £6.5m and gross assets of not more than £3.26m can claim exemption from an audit. (Charities have different criteria)
Audits are always a constructive exercise to provide assurance that the accounts show a true and fair view within the relevant legislation.
